About Our Program

Why was our program founded?
UCLA Alpha Epsilon Delta’s MyUCLAHealth program was initially founded in the summer of 2013 due to the anticipation of supporting UCLA Health’s patient population in its transition to paperless electronic health records (EHRs). To ease the transition, computer workshops were scheduled at Ronald Reagan Medical Center and Santa Monica Hospital to provide free 1-on-1 computer tech-support on myUCLAhealth, the new patient web-portal that allows patients to communicate with their physicians and manage their health records online. The volunteers for these workshops brought a positive and friendly experience in teaching and educating patients on computers, laptops, tablets, etc.

What do our volunteers do?
In the Spring of 2014, the program was expanded and revamped, implementing the component of staffing volunteers in the waiting rooms of outpatient clinics in Ronald Reagan Medical Center. The purpose of this new program is to train and utilize volunteer “Ambassadors” to assist, educate, and survey patients on their usage of the MyUCLAHealth portal. Ambassadors serve as experts on UCLA's EHR system and collect survey data for the hospital's research initiatives, all while engaging in valuable 1-on-1 patient exposure and experience in a clinical setting. In addition, as part of UCLA Health's 50 Plus Program, our volunteers hold monthly technology workshop sessions at Santa Monica Medical Center, assisting patients in the Los Angeles community in any of their technological needs.

Our program is student-directed foremost and led by physician and healthcare administrators. We continue to grow every quarter in terms of the number of volunteers and the number of clinics that we participate in. We hope to be the go-to source for all patients at UCLA Health when it comes to learning how to use new and adapted technologies!
